Established in the 1960s, the Kiunyu Coffee Factory is a cornerstone of the Karithathi Farmer Cooperative Society. Located in the fertile highlands of Kirinyaga County, this factory serves over 3,000 dedicated smallholders from the surrounding villages of Kianduma, Kiambuku, Kiambatha, Gature, and Kiamuki.
While the region is well-known for tea, the coffee produced here is of legendary quality, benefiting from decades of tradition and an exceptional microclimate.
Kiunyu sits at an elevation of 1,644 m.a.s.l, where the air is cool (13–24°C) and the rainfall is perfectly balanced. The coffee trees thrive in deep, well-drained red volcanic soils, which are packed with the organic nutrients necessary for producing vibrant, high-density beans. In this specific region, the SL 34 variety reigns supreme, accounting for 99% of production, ensuring a cup profile that is remarkably consistent, clean, and complex.
Supplied green and unroasted for home and small-batch roasting. Not ready to brew.
